Did you say Anarchy?!?

If words relating to American culture and counter-culture (bikers, super heroes, punk music, porn, horror films, etc.) appeal to you, then the Steven Parrino (1958-2005) retrospective presented at Palais Tokyo will definitely interest you. The sources of Parrino’s œuvre appear in the works of artists such as Andy Warhol, and his fetish colours, black and silver, are the colours of Harley Davidsons, guitar amplifiers, sunglasses, which Parrino used to wear even at night.

This retrospective gathers about one hundred works shown in three distinct spaces. It not only brings together a selection of works by Parrino, but also presents a collection of works by artists from whom he drew inspiration as well as pieces by artists he exhibited, supported, and with whom he collaborated. La Marque Noire covers a field ranging form minimalism to tattoos, by way of experimental films, cartoons and design. Parrino isn’t the easiest artist to understand on first hand, but once you get interested and read a little about him and what he does, you’ll get it.
